Poil de Carotte is Jules Renard. This story is an autobiographical account of the writer's own childhood on a farm. It describes the events that take place in the boy's own life.
Through his irony, and with some bitterness, the author expresses his feelings for his mother who bullied him, and his father who neglected him. The book is Renard's best known work. It has been made into both a play and a film.
